What Is an EDI 945 Warehouse Shipping Advice?
A practical guide to source-reported shipment evidence sent by a warehouse.
EDI 945 is the X12 Warehouse Shipping Advice transaction set. It communicates warehouse shipment/advice evidence to a depositor or another business party. A 945 can carry shipment identification, actual-shipment date evidence, warehouse and depositor references, physical W12 item evidence, source-reported ordered and shipped quantities, a source-reported difference, products and lots, parties, carrier and routing evidence, marks, pallets, measurements, and W03 transaction-summary evidence.
945 is distinct from 940, 856, and 850
An EDI 940 Warehouse Shipping Order communicates a directive or request to a warehouse. An EDI 945 Warehouse Shipping Advice reports warehouse shipment-advice evidence. An EDI 856 Ship Notice / Manifest describes shipment contents and configuration, commonly through an HL hierarchy. An EDI 850 Purchase Order communicates a buyer's commercial order. Shared identifiers do not authorize automatic matching or reconciliation among these documents.
What the public mapper preserves
The public canonical mapping is tested for generic releases 004010, 004030, and 005010. It produces exactly 151 ordered fields using ITEM, LX_ONLY, and SUMMARY rows. Collections preserve physical occurrences as compact JSON strings. Leading zeros, long identifiers, signed lexical decimals, dates, references, products, lots, marks, and carrier values remain strings.
What a 945 does not prove
A 945 is evidence of what its source reports. It does not independently prove customer delivery, receipt, acceptance, complete fulfillment, carrier performance, warehouse compliance, or a verified shipment total. The converter does not calculate W1204, a fulfillment percentage, a delivery-success rate, or a W03/detail reconciliation. Partner certification and cross-document validation remain outside generic scope.
