Source ownership and row grain
How to Read an EDI 945 Warehouse Shipping Advice
Follow physical W06, outer LX, and W12 evidence while keeping every quantity mechanism distinct.
Start with exact ST01=945, the envelope release, and W06. Detection never relies on a filename, warehouse keyword, W06, or W12 alone. Resolve generic 004010, 004030, or 005010 context, preserve source order, and read every mapped value as source-reported evidence.
Read W06 shipment identity and dates
W06 provides reporting and shipment-advice identity. ActualShipmentDate comes from W0603. ShippedDate comes from an exact G62 qualifier 11 occurrence. These mechanisms remain independently visible. The converter does not infer lateness, timing performance, delivery, receipt, or fulfillment from their presence or agreement.
Understand ITEM, LX_ONLY, and SUMMARY
An ITEM row represents one physical W12. An LX_ONLY row represents a physical outer LX that owns no W12. A SUMMARY row represents a transaction with no outer LX and no W12. Nested serial or batch LX structures remain Raw-only and do not leak into canonical row ownership. FileName, FileOrdinal, transaction identity, owners, and SourceIndex preserve multi-file and multi-ST isolation.
Keep W12 quantities literal
OrderedQuantity is W1202, ShippedQuantity is W1203, SourceReportedQuantityDifference is W1204, and W12UOM is W1205. These strings are preserved exactly. The converter does not calculate W1204, reconcile it to W1202 minus W1203, or derive a fulfillment rate. W12 weight, PAL, MEA, qualified QTY, and W03 remain separate mechanisms.
Keep product and summary mechanisms separate
W1206 is the positional UPC case-code mechanism. Qualified product identifiers use four separate qualifier/value pairs at W1207/W1208, W1214/W1215, W1217/W1218, and W1221/W1222. A same-value qualified UP occurrence remains distinct from W1206 and may populate its documented alias. W03 is source-reported transaction-summary evidence; it is not independently reconciled to W12 detail or promoted as a verified total.
Trace contextual evidence
Review N1 parties and children, N9 references, G62 dates, G61 contacts, NTE notes, G69 descriptions, W27/W10/W28 carrier structures, R4 routing, MAN marks, PAL, MEA, QTY, and W6 occurrences in their source scope. Continue with the data map, validation guide, export guide, or public EDI Parser.
