Generic source validation
How to Validate an EDI 945 Warehouse Shipping Advice
Review objective framing, release, ownership, companion, and local syntax findings without inventing operational conclusions.
EDI 945 validation is source-local and release-aware. It combines shared X12 framing checks with the frozen generic 945 rule catalog for 004010, 004030, and 005010. Findings expose bounded code, category, severity, safe message, and source provenance; arbitrary source values are rendered as text rather than copied into diagnostic messages.
What generic validation checks
- ISA/GS/ST framing, transaction identity, control relationships, and tested release resolution.
- Required W06 structure, outer LX and W12 ownership, orphan W12 evidence, and bounded transaction organization.
- W12 quantity/UOM companions, exactly four qualified product pairs, positional W1206, and release-specific W12 syntax.
- G62 local date/time syntax, party ownership and children, N9 references, contacts, descriptions, notes, W27/W10/W28 carrier evidence, R4, MAN, PAL, MEA, QTY, W6, and W03 local syntax.
- Wrong-grammar TD1, TD3, TD5, W20, and REF evidence without reinterpreting it as a valid 945 mechanism.
Representative safe findings
A missing W06, orphan W12, quantity without its UOM companion, incomplete product pair, malformed G62 date, or release-invalid structure can produce a frozen diagnostic. A malformed G62 qualifier 11 occurrence remains diagnosed even when a later usable qualifier 11 provides ShippedDate. Legitimate Raw-only G72, LM/LQ, AMT, nested serial/batch LX, and FA1/FA2 evidence is not invalid merely because it is not canonically mapped.
What validation excludes
Generic validation does not provide partner certification, delivery confirmation, 940 reconciliation, fulfillment calculation, carrier SLA compliance, GS1 certification, routing-guide compliance, warehouse compliance, customer receipt, or proof that quantities were delivered, received, accepted, or completely fulfilled. It does not independently reconcile W03 with W12 detail and does not calculate W1204.
Read validation and summary separately
The safe summary aggregates structural counts, row types, source-reported quantity mechanisms, product, party, reference, date, carrier, routing, packaging, measurement, and validation distributions. Ordered, shipped, source-reported difference, qualified quantity, W12 weight, PAL, MEA, and W03 evidence remain separate. W03 is source-reported transaction-summary evidence, not a verified total.
Validate and download the report
Open the EDI Validator or validate beside the Converter. Download findings as CSV, XLSX, or JSON and trace source locations with the 945 reading guide and EDI 945 data map. Source processing remains browser-local; a clean result is not proof that a shipment occurred or a partner accepted the document.
