Generic source validation
How to Validate EDI 852 Product Activity Data
Review framing, releases, requiredness, paired elements, ownership, and lexical syntax without inventing business conclusions.
Public 852 validation is source-local, release-aware, and sensitive-value-free. It combines shared X12 framing checks with the frozen objective 852 rule catalog for 004010, 004030, and 005010. Diagnostics retain bounded rule and physical provenance without copying raw product IDs, locations, parties, references, quantities, prices, amounts, dates, free text, contacts, or ReportIdentifier.
What generic validation checks
- ISA/GS/ST/SE framing, exact ST01=852, control relationships, and release resolution.
- Required XQ context, LIN-to-ZA structure, ZA01, and product qualifier/value pairs.
- Separate product QTY and ZA-owned activity QTY requiredness and lexical form.
- SDQ destination pairs and G95 condition evidence under their physical owners.
- Parties, references, dates, pricing, adjustments, packaging, pallets, and amounts using objective local rules.
What validation does not do
The validator does not validate actual sales or inventory truth, reconcile quantities, reconcile CTT to LIN, ZA, or canonical rows, calculate demand, shortage, replenishment, ATP, or fulfillment readiness, certify accounting results, partner performance, or a trading-partner implementation. A clean generic result is not partner certification.
Reports and safe summary
Validation reports prepare CSV, XLSX, and JSON only—never validation XML. The edi-852-safe-summary-contract-v1 exposes structure, row/activity counts, activity-code and qualifier distributions, ownership-aware occurrence counts, releases, and validation aggregates. It excludes every raw source value and performs no business analytics.
Validate and investigate the report
Open the EDI Validator or review findings beside the Converter. Download the validation report as CSV, XLSX, or JSON and trace each source location with the 852 reading guide and EDI 852 data map. A resolved structural error does not establish actual sales, accurate inventory, or partner acceptance.
